Data and the Future of Transit
Representatives from tech companies focused on the auto industry converged on Austin and provided some intriguing insights into how data is reshaping transit. Representatives from Zipcar, Inrix, Park Me app, and WonderVoice described how each of their companies were pushing transportation innovation and making the hassle of driving just a bit easier for everyone.
Gal Melamed from WonderVoice explained how his hands-free, voice-controlled app is making it easy for drivers to interact with their favorite apps on their phone while continuing to stay focused on the road. One standout feature is the voice-activated parking assistant.
All the user has to do is say “find parking” and the app will automatically scan for the best available parking options using GPS integration techniques. It even displays the various prices for the available parking spots. And once the user hears an appealing parking spot, the user says “take me there” and the map is displayed that will automatically guide the driver to their destination!
As the global population and density of urban areas continue to rise, technology will play a crucial role in managing the efficiency of transportation to keep our economies moving and not stuck on the interstate.
